For almost 50 years Astroland, in Coney Island, New York has entertained families and children every summer, offering them games and rides such as Wonder Wheel and Cyclone, is now going to be shut down due to the non renewable lease. This has saddened and upset many Coney Islanders as well as New Yorkers in general. It is not the first time that they have threatened to shut down the almost five decade old amusement park, but it seems like this is the first time they will actually go through with it since the developers at Thor Equities are not willing to renew the lease. On Sunday September 7th 2008, several people will be protesting against the shutting down of the island's main attraction, next to Nathan's Famous Frankfurters.
